The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the nomination of Ahmed Maiyaki by Governor Uba Sani as the new Commissioner for Information.
Mr. Maiyaki took a bow after introducing himself to the lawmakers, and in an interview shortly after, he pledged to adopt a more proactive and responsive approach to government communication.
He emphasized the importance of keeping citizens informed and actively involved in the governance process.
Mr. Maiyaki noted that the Ministry of Information plays a vital role in bridging the gap between the government and the people.
“Communication must not be an afterthought. It should be clear and responsive, helping citizens understand government actions while keeping the government aware of public concerns,” he said.
On whether retired staff would be recalled, Mr. Maiyaki clarified that while they would not be returning to active service, their experience and wisdom would be valued.
He explained that competent individuals within the service were being identified to ensure timely and effective delivery.
Reflecting on his previous stint in the Ministry, Mr. Maiyaki expressed gratitude for the opportunity to now lead.
“I’ve been here before, though not in this role. I look forward to working with the team,” he said.
Earlier in the session, two bills scaled third reading and were passed into law. These include a bill amending the Kaduna State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2017, and another establishing the Kaduna State Tourism, Museum, Landscape, and Recreational Services Law, 2025.
Both motions were moved by Mahmud Lawal of the Zaria constituency and seconded by Hassan Muhammad of the Ikara constituency.
The Assembly also considered the second reading of another bill — the Kaduna State Tertiary Institution Regulatory Agency and Other Related Matters Bill, 2025.
Sponsored by Mr. Lawal, the bill seeks to reform tertiary education through data-driven regulation and enhanced accountability.
