The Kaduna State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has come out in strong terms to defend its internal democracy, integrity, and constitutional leadership.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna, State chairman of the party Alhaji Adamu Idris said it became necessary to update the public on recent actions threatening the party’s unity and democratic foundation.
He stressed that the current State Working Committee of the party was duly elected during the 2022 Congress and holds a valid mandate until April 2026.
Alhaji Adamu Idris described the dissolution of the committee as illegal, stating that it was a violation of the party’s constitution.
“This unconstitutional dissolution was a deliberate attempt to create confusion and derail the steady progress made by the party. Hence, the legitimate leadership sought legal redress to protect the mandate freely given by party members,” he stated.
The State Party Chairman revealed that the Kaduna State High Court intervened and ruled in their favor, reaffirming the legitimacy of the duly elected leadership.
He, therefore, described the judgment as a victory for the party and democracy, which proved that justice and the rule of law still stand.
The chairman, however, warned of a growing new threat from former political figures with questionable motives bent on distracting the party from performing its core mandates
Alhaji Idris made it clear that the party is built on principles and people first ideals and not available for selfish experiments and political laundering.
He added that while the party remains open to new members,
it must be on the basis of shared values and respect for rules
“as we prepare for the forthcoming by election, we wish to clarify that nomination forms and all other electoral processes will be coordinated solely by the legitimate State Working Committee”,he said
The chairman also said the Kaduna State chapter of the SDP remains fully loyal to the national leadership led by Acting Chairman Professor Sadig Umar
and National Secretary Dr. Olu Ogunloye.
Alhaji Idris Adamu reiterated added that the party remains firmly committed to its founding ideals of justice, equity, accountability, and meaningful national progress, adding that the party will continue to serve as a credible platform for real political alternatives for Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.
