A veteran journalist and public analyst, Mr. Ahmed Tukur has advocated for three additional seats allocation in House of Representatives to Nasarawa state at the current on-going constitutional amendment to enhance good governance and economic growth.
He made the call while speaking with journalists in lafia, the state capital.
He said that, creating the three additional seats in Karu, Nasarawa Eggon, and Lafia, the state capital will ensure balance, fairness and equity in the distribution of national resources especially in the North Central considering the rapid populations in the areas.

Mr. Tukur maintained that, “Karu local government alone has populations of over three million people which deserved a seat at the House of Representatives, also lafia the state capital now has over one point five million people and it’s witnessing a massive development and Nasarawa Eggon local government area which is among the largest local government area mostly populated with farmers need to get one as well”.
He added that, if the three seat is created in Karu, one in Nasarawa Eggon and another one in Lafia the state capital, making it eight out of the initial five federal constituency to the state at the green chamber would bring more dividend of democracy to the people of the state.
“Section 71 and 72 of the constitution stipulates that, every ten years there should be delimitation of constituency and Nasarawa state is due considering the population of the state especially Karu, Nasarawa Eggon and Lafia”.
“You don’t need to be told that karu had become substitute to Abuja due to all the inhabitants of Abuja low income earners are residing in karu and being the closet to federal capital is now witnessing a serious population which is enough to have additional constituency”, he emphasized.
“Initially Nasarawa state have five seats at the green chamber in the National Assembly which includes Lafia, Obi Federal constituency, Keana, Awe and Doma in Nasarawa south while in the Nasarawa North, Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga, and Wamba Federal constituency”.
He further explained that, Kokona, Keffi and Karu had only one house of representative member as well as Nasarawa and Toto maintained one.
“I hope each and every citizen of Nasarawa state will support this move in order to achieve the struggle in allocationg the three additional slots adding that, the population of Nasarawa state currently is closed to the entire south east while lafia had became the center of activities in the North Central”, he added.
