The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has intercepted a whopping ₦650,987,268.50 in undeclared foreign currency at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.

The Area Comptroller Nigeria Custom Service Kano/Jigawa Command Dalhatu Abubakar disclosed this during the official handing over of the currencies and the suspects to the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission EFCC at the Custom Headquarters Kano.

He said the currency was seized from a Ghanaian national, Ahmad Salisu, who arrived from Saudi Arabia on Ethiopian Airlines on July 7, 2025.

The suspect was arrested by vigilant customs officers after he failed to declare the foreign currency in his possession.

“A search of his luggage revealed $420,900, 3,946,500 XOF (West African CFA franc), 224,000 XAF (Central African CFA franc), and 5,825 British Pounds. The total amount seized was estimated to be worth ₦650,987,268.50.”

Comptroller Dalhat Abubakar said the NCS Kano/Jigawa Area Command worked closely with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to effect the arrest and seizure.

The EFCC’s Zonal Director, Ibrahim Shazali, commended the NCS for their diligence and praised the collaboration between the two agencies.

He noted that the NCS and EFCC have reiterated their commitment to combating economic crimes and enforcing financial regulations.

“Our surveillance is active, our intelligence is sharp, and our resolve to apprehend offenders is unwavering,” Shazali said.

” Section 3 of the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022 and Section 55F of the Nigerian Customs Service Act 2023 mandate travelers to declare currencies or negotiable instruments exceeding $10,000.”

Shazali urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements of large volumes of cash.
