A non-governmental organization, Kukah Centre says it is committed to training state security operatives in Sokoto, Kaduna, and Benue States.

Director of the Centre,  Reverend Father Atta Barkindo, who stated this said the move was aimed at complementing federal government efforts in addressing the ongoing security challenges facing the nation.

Reverend Father Atta Barkindo emphasised that the training was designed to enhance community security amid the myriad of challenges many states across the country are experiencing.

He highlighted the need for established state security operatives to develop standardized procedures to ensure effective service delivery.

Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of the Kukah Centre, Terseer Bamber pointed out that some of the state security outfits have faced accusations of human rights violations and gender-based violence.

He stressed the importance of addressing these issues as a prerequisite for achieving sustainable security development in Nigeria.

The training project is being implemented in collaboration with the Kukah Center, UK International Development, and Tetra Tech International Development.

In a remark, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by Sarkin Yakin Gagi, District Head of Gagi Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi,  expressed the Sultanate readiness to support any efforts that directly contribute to peace and development in the country.

He urged state governments to prioritize maintaining peace and unity, lamenting that security challenges have severely impacted the nation’s socio-security and economic development .

Radio Nigeria reports that the event was attended by representatives from the police, civil defense, legal practitioners, legislators, and traditional leaders, highlighting a collaborative approach to improving security in Nigeria.
