President Bola Ahmad Tinubu says He will never be an advocate for a one party System in the Country.

He stated this at the Joint session of the National Assembly to mark 26 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.

President Tinubu explained that the struggle for democracy was never for any group or section of the
country, it was a collective pan-Nigerian in its conception and will be even more as we strive to perfect it.

He argued that for some one to think I’ am an advocate of something other than democracy will be a myth, thereby debunking some perceptions that his Government under the ruling APC is trying to make Nigeria a one party system of democracy.

Tinubu further said one party System of democracy will not be good to our diverse nature and to put this insinuation to rest, he categorically told the joint session of the National Assembly of his position on the issue.

” I will be the last person to advocate for such scheme, in the year 2003 when the then governing party tried to sweep the nation clean of political opposition through plot and manipulation I was the last progressive governor to stand ”

President Tinubu urged the law makers to work together in the interest of the country and existing system of democratic governance

He said he came to the National Assembly chamber being the authors of the people’s law, and as elected president must be their faithful implementer, adding that they may not always agree with each other but at the same time must forge a way to work together because this is what democracy demands, pledging for their cooperation for the good of Nigerians .

President Tinubu also assured his administration’s commitments to empower the Nigerian Youth for National development.

” We are committed to giving more opportunities to young people through job creation and skill development, through such programme as Nigeria education fund NELFUND, we are investing in net cation in a greater future of our country focusing at training apprenticeship and entrepreneurship to ensure that our youth are job ready and future ready ”

Earlier in his opening remarks the president of the senate Godswill Akpabio commended President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for the successes so far been recorded since the inception of his administration.

“Under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership we have seen his transformation in his bold approach to build and reform the decade Nigeria”

On his part the Speaker house of Representatives Abbas Tajuddeen, urged for an argent reforms in the power and Solid mineral sectors of the economy to strengthen the economic sustainability of Nigeria and its peoples .

” We must embrace renewable and clean energy sources such as solar wind and even nuclear to ensure a reliable and sustainable National grid ”

Similarly many senators and House members have expressed their support to president Bola ahmad Tinubu’s administration

Senator Abdulaziz Yari said the efforts put in place by this administration in the area of economy especially subsidy removal is highly commendable because many Nigerians are not aware of the huge loses Nigeria was incurring during the subsidy era

He also said going by the current success in the security situation especially in his state Zamfara is highly commendable , assuring Nigerians more efforts in the sustainance of peace and security in the country and infrastructural developments in the future.

Also Hon Ibrahim Al- Mustapha Aliyu believed that Nigerians today are fully aware of what the country is facing in the area of economy ,security Agricultural and infrastructural reforms, this administration is embarking upon and the future commitments of President Tinubu’s administration

He also said the fuel scarcity and high cost of living is now being reduced as a result of stability in the market due to liberality to president Tinubu to allow for competition and stability of forex

On his part Hon Alhassan Ado Doguwa commended President Bola Tinubu’s position on the some insinuations of attempt to make the political system of Nigeria a one party system of democracy

Doguwa also said Tinubu’s open door policy for opposition is the best form of democratic system where every citizen is allow to choose the ruling party APC for the interest of Nigerians

According to senator Anthony Isyaku Yaro representing Gombe south believed that as an opposition they will follow all the pronouncements of president Tinubu to ensure proper oversight for the interest of Nigeria.

He said even though he is from opposition he must admit the fact that democratic system is far better than military dictatorship but the most important point for them as opposition they are determined and committed this time around in ensuring the Electorates reap the dividend of democracy in accordance with the laid down rules of democratic system of Governance in Nigeria.

Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, has expressed displeasure over President Tinubu’s silence on the situation in Rivers State during his Democracy Day address.

Reacting to the President’s speech and democratic ideals, Senator Dickson noted that throughout the address, President Tinubu failed to utter a word regarding the issue of a possible emergency rule in Rivers State.

He described the alleged appointment of military personnel to oversee the administration of Rivers State as a clear violation of democratic principles.

He also expressed concern that the National Assembly, despite being a separate arm of government, appears to have failed in checking such a move, suggesting that the separation of powers is being undermined.

According to Senator Dickson, Democracy Day should be a time for reaffirming democratic values.

He argued that for a President who claims to uphold democracy, remaining silent on a situation that resembles military rule in a federating state is unacceptable.

He warned that if one state can be placed under de facto military control, it sets a dangerous precedent and puts the democratic system of the entire country at risk.

The Highpoint of the occasion was decoration of presiding officers of the National Assembly with the National Honours earlier conferred on them last year.
