Nasarawa State Government has denied the allegation of harbouring attackers of Benue Communities being alleged by a former member of house of representative from Benue State Mr. Mark Gbila.
A statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs Comrade Peter Ahemba and made available to newsmen in lafia.
The statement said, the former federal lawmaker was recently featured on national television making malicious and unsubstantiated statement, that bandits who attacked some Benue communities were being harboured from nasarawa state.
It said, nasarawa state government, under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, remained commited in building synergy with neighbouring states, particularly Benue, to enhance peace and address security challenges bedeviled the states and beyond.
The statement also quotes Comrade Peter Ahemba saying Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is the Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, demonstrated solidarity with the Government and people of Benue over the unfortunate killings.
“The statement read in part,”With this demonstrated solidarity for the people of Benue and neighbouring states being confronted with security challenges in the region and the concerted efforts by Governor Sule towards addressing the same.
“The allegations by Mr Gbilah are therefore a malicious attempt to tarnish the image of the state and disrupt the inter-state relationship between Nasarawa and Benue states .
“As a former National Assembly member, Hon. Gbilah is advised to see himself as a stakeholder in the peace and security project and desist from fanning the embers of discord capable of igniting tension between the two states.”
It noted that the nasarawa state governor had championed collaborative efforts with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to address the security challenges confronting the region.
The statement called on the public to disregard the false narratives from the former federal lawmaker and focus on promoting peace, unity and cooperation among the communities.
