As part of its effort to reduce the number of out-of-school children, the Kaduna State Government has launched an ambitious plan to return over 200,000 children to school over the next four years under the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC). programme.
The initiative, which began in April 2024 and will run through 2028, was unveiled during a two-day workshop organized in collaboration with Save the Children.
According to a representative of the State Ministry of Education, Salisu Baba Lawal, the programme targets all the twenty three Local Government Areas across the three Senatorial Zones of the state.
“The program is an initiative of the Kaduna State Government in collaboration with development and implementing partners”.
“Kaduna State Government secured soft loans and grants to implement the program in order to tackle the issue of Out-of-School Children in Kaduna State”.
“So far, 405 teachers have been trained, 102 new schools constructed, and 170 others are undergoing renovation. The programme aims to boost enrolment, improve teaching quality, and create a safe learning environment” he said.
“Save the Children International and UNICEF are key partners in the project, with the initiative receiving strong backing from Governor Uba Sani.

The ROOSC project prioritizes inclusivity, gender sensitivity, and pro-poor strategies to ensure access to quality primary education for children, adolescents, and young adults across Kaduna State.
