Federal Government retirees have expressed hope that the public hearing convened by the House of Representatives on pension reform will address the challenges faced by senior citizens.

Some of the retirees, speaking ahead of the event scheduled for tomorrow in Abuja, urged invited stakeholders to make meaningful contributions that would help achieve the intended objectives.

They also proposed the scrapping of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) and the National Pension Commission (PenCom), citing their alleged failure to fulfill the purpose for which they were established, causing untold hardship to pensioners.

Alhaji Mikailu Sani Abdullahi expressed concern over the lack of sincerity in the administration of the pension scheme, despite efforts by the Federal Government to alleviate the suffering of pensioners caused by corruption, while calling for the intervention of the ICPC and EFCC to take appropriate action.

He also urged the National Assembly to investigate the budgetary allocations provided for the payment of pension arrears, which have been delayed without explanation by the relevant agencies, calling for penalties to serve as a deterrent.
