Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fully adopting Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for WAEC and NECO examinations by 2026 as part of efforts to curb widespread examination malpractice.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during a live interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that the transition will begin with objective papers in November 2025, ahead of full implementation by the May/June 2026 exam cycle.

He said the move followed a diagnostic review of Nigeria’s examination systems, citing JAMB’s success in reducing cheating through technology.

Alausa stressed that malpractice undermines merit and discourages hardworking students, describing “miracle centres” as unacceptable.

The minister confirmed that extensive consultations had been held with WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, and NBAIS, adding that the transition to CBT was a decisive step toward restoring integrity in public examinations.
