Persons with Cleft and Facial Deformities have called for the establishment of a special Craniofacial Hospital for the poor to bring succor to those suffering from the condition.
cleft is a gap, split, or opening in tissues or structures, particularly during fetal development or in the human body. It can refer to a crack or fissure, but is most commonly used to describe the failure of parts of the body to fuse together during development
They made the call at the 29th free Craniofacial surgery outreach by the Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation in Kuje, Abuja
Some of the Beneficiaries at the event Toyin Anuoluwapo, Blessing Ajeka and Hadiza Abdullahi thanked the foundation for changing their lives positively.
The Minister of Health Professor Ali Pate who was represented by the Director, Dentistry Division, Dr. Gloria Uzoigwe, highlighted the ordeals those with facial Deformities go through such as decriminalization, mockery and harassment, urging the public to give them all the needed support.
The senator Representing O yo North, Senator Fatai Buhari, promised to relay the call for the establishment of the special cleft hospital to the Senate committee on health.
The Chief Executive Officer of Cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation, Dr. Bello Seidu said the outreach which started 14 years ago has so far carried out over four thousand major and minor surgeries.
A representative From the Nigeria Dental Association, Dr. Agbo Theophilus, who said over six thousand children are born with oral or facial Deformity every year, promised to give the foundation manpower support to do more.
The Chief Executive Officer, TY Danjuma Foundation, Mr Gima Forge who was represented by the program officer on Health, Eucharia Unimnake, who lauded the cleft and Facial Deformity Foundation, for the various outreaches and good testimonials over the years, promised to keep supporting the foundation in puting smiles on the faces of vulnerable persons.
The FCT mandate secretary for Health services and Environment, Dr Dolapo Fasewe, who was represented by the Head of Hospitals management, Dr Bello Gbenga, said it would continue to make available hospital facilities to the foundation for use, urging other individuals and organizations to help the less privileged with any health issues and find treatment.
