The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, the Speaker extended sympathies to the Catholic Church, the global Christian community, and the Holy See.
Dr. Abbas described Pope Francis as a towering spiritual figure and a relentless advocate for global peace, compassion, and human dignity.
“Pope Francis was not just a religious leader but a beacon of hope and a global statesman who stood for peace, unity, and the common good,” the Speaker said.
He noted that the pontiff dedicated his life to serving God and humanity, using his papacy to promote moral values, social justice, and inclusivity. Recalling the Pope’s final public appearance during Easter Mass at the Vatican, the Speaker highlighted the Pope’s continued calls for an end to global conflicts.
“From war-torn regions to the most forgotten corners of the world, Pope Francis consistently championed justice, mercy, and reconciliation,” Dr. Abbas added.
Citing tributes from EWTN and other Catholic platforms, the Speaker praised the Pope’s legacy, including his advocacy for the poor and marginalized, his environmental call through Laudato Si’, and his vision for a healing and inclusive Church.
While commiserating with Christians around the world, particularly Catholics, Dr. Abbas said Pope Francis’s contributions to the Church and humanity were transformative and enduring.
