In a bold move to enhance mobility and student welfare, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has, officially launched an on-campus tricycle service at the university’s New Campus.

The initiative aims to provide students and staff with a safer, more convenient mode of transportation, easing the challenges posed by the vast distances between faculties and departments.

Accompanied by key university officials, including the Registrar, Haruna Aliyu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Professor Haruna Musa, University Librarian Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas, Head of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, and Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the BUK’s commitment to prioritizing student welfare.

“This initiative is part of our broader effort to enhance security and convenience for our students. We are committed to making our campuses not only academically stimulating but also comfortable and safe for everyone,” said Professor Abbas.

He reassured the university community that the tricycles would be operated under strict monitoring and evaluation, with properly trained drivers adhering to best practices from 7am to 9pm daily.

The Vice Chancellor further encouraged students to maximize the service responsibly, adding that the number of tricycles would be increased over time to accommodate demand.

This development follows the university’s February 2025 ban on motorcycles due to security concerns.

The introduction of tricycles presents a safer, more structured alternative, ensuring seamless movement across the sprawling campus while maintaining the university’s reputation for safety and order.
