Kaduna State Government says it is committed to protecting agricultural investments with the prompt release of funds for heightening of biosecurity measures across the poultry value chain in the state.
The State Commissioner Ministry for Agriculture Kaduna State, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed Dabo stated this in a message while responding on the first index cases of avian influenza in Kano, Plateau and Rivers States.
Alhaji Murtala Muhammed Dabo explained that Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani has since commenced engagement with stakeholders in the poultry value chain and also procured disinfectants to decontaminate all live bird markets and targetes poultry farms in the state.
“Governor Uba Sani has ensure state-wide weekly disinfection and decontamination of slaughter slabs and abattoirs in all the local government areas of the state. He said.
“Others are media engagement for public awareness, using various platform across the state and also active surveillance at all entry points”.
The Commissioner advised public in the state to remain calm as the government, through the department of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture is taking all necessary measures to bring the situation under control.
Alhaji Murtala Muhammed Dabo said the state government is working with stakeholders round the clock to ensure the avian influenza outbreak is contained and controlled swiftly.
“The government intensified control activities in all local government areas and has identified affected farms and the state rapid response teams are on ground to effect all stamp out measures to contain the outbreak”. He assured.
The Commissioner also appealed to public to remain calm as the state government is fully committed.
