President Bola Tinubu has appointed the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, as Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform.

The President expressed confidence that Professor Jega’s appointment will drive meaningful progress in the livestock sector and further strengthen national development efforts.

A former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Jega previously co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside President Tinubu.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, noted that the committee had delivered comprehensive recommendations for sustainable livestock reforms, including the creation of a dedicated Livestock Ministry.

Jega, 68, is a member of the International Elections Advisory Council and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano State.

He served as INEC Chairman from 2010 to 2015, overseeing significant electoral reforms in Nigeria.

According to the statement, his appointment will reinforce the gains of the presidential committee and sustain the momentum of ongoing livestock reforms.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing the sector, ensuring food security, economic growth, and peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
