A new batch of three hundred and ninety Nigerian migrants, who were stranded in Niamey, Niger Republic, have been repatriated back to Nigeria.
The returnees arrived at the Nigeria Immigration Training School in Kano on Tuesday at 1:05 a.m.
The group consisted of three hundred and eighty seven adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy.
Their return was facilitated by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
The Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijjani Ahmed welcomed the returnees and reaffirmed government’s commitment to reintegrating them into various empowerment programs.
Radio Nigeria reports that, this is the third batch of returnees from Niger Republic, following a similar repatriation effort in December 2024, which brought back seven hundred and two stranded Nigerians.
The Federal Government has been working to support Nigerians stranded abroad, with a total of five thousand, two hundred and nineteen individuals repatriated from Niger, Libya, and other countries between February and December 2023.
The returnees were received by a team of officials from various agencies, including the NCFRMI, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Kano state Emergency Management Agency SEMA among others.
They were registered and profiled to ensure proper documentation and access to reintegration support programs.
