Jigawa Pension Board Pays Over N1.5 Billion To 609 Retirees

Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme has disbursed over 1.543 billion naira as terminal benefits to 609 retirees who completed 35 years of active service between August and December 2024.

The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, made this known while addressing the beneficiaries at the Pension House Dutse.

According to him, the payment was divided into four categories; with the first batch, consisting of 465 retired staff who either completed 35 years of service or reached the mandatory retirement age of 60, received over 1.173 billion naira.

He said that the second category comprises 103 staff members who died while in active service, and their relatives were paid over 315 million naira.

Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu further explained that the third batch consists of 39 retirees who had started receiving their monthly pensions but passed away before completing the minimum period of five years after retirement; they were paid over 54 million naira.

“The last batch was beneficiary who did not contribute up to a period of 5 years, and the law stated that for every staff to qualify to be paid from the scheme was for him to contribute for a minimum period of five years.Under this category, we have paid two person, the sum of N749, 010.31 including 15% interest”

The Executive Secretary warned pensioners across the state to be cautious of fraudsters.

He added that their services are free and urged pensioners never to bribe any staff member for their terminal benefits.

The Pension Boss said that they operate under the guidelines established for the pension board, in accordance with pension regulations.

Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu also called on the citizens of the state to continue supporting the government with their prayers to achieve a better Jigawa, where everyone can enjoy the benefits of the shared prosperity agenda.

He expressed his appreciation to Governor Umar Namadi for his care and generosity toward pensioners in the state.

“The prompt payment of Pension and gratuity has helped to enliven the heart of Pensioners and prayed that God would continue to fortify him to do more”.

Dr. Bilyaminu also stated that the gesture would enhance service delivery as well as bolster the well being of the retirees to enjoy a fulfilled life after service.

“The State Government and the Board will continue to ensure prompt payment of Pension and other entitlements to workers for better service delivery, well-being of retirees and fulfilled life after service ”

Some of the beneficiaries, commended the Governor for prioritizing issues concerning Pensioners’ welfare.
