Northern Frontiers for Good Governance, wants the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to investigate the alleged corrupt award of N1 billion contract by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The controversial contract was awarded to Greed Vision Nigeria Limited for the Phase One Renovation and Rehabilitation of the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The petition, signed by the group’s national coordinator Mallam Abdullah Tanko, expresses deep concern that the Ministry of Agriculture, which is tasked with addressing the needs of farmers, has instead diverted funds from its core mandate.

The petition stresses that funds meant for essential agricultural support, such as seedlings and tractors, were allocated to the renovation of a cultural venue. “It is disturbing that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s budget, which is supposed to be for seedlings, tractors, and help for farmers, has become a financial input to the emergency renovation and rehabilitation of the Ojude Oba Pavilion,” the petition reads.

In the petition titled “Petition for Investigation into the Alleged Corrupt Award of a N1 Billion Contract by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for the Renovation and Rehabilitation of the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode,” the group has urged the EFCC to scrutinize the process surrounding the contract’s award. Specifically, they are calling for an investigation into the actual cost of the project and how it compares to the awarded contract sum.

Furthermore, the group has requested that the EFCC determine how the project managed to pass through legislative scrutiny and approval. The petition also calls for the recovery of any misappropriated funds and for the prosecution of those found responsible for any wrongdoing.

The EFCC acknowledged receipt of the petition in a letter dated December 23, 2024, and has committed to reviewing the matter further.
