Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has received the report of the Hisba Review Committee, which was set up to examine the structure and activities of the Hisba operatives in the state.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the review committee, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, said there are deficiencies in the existing law, thereby resulting in the Hisba operations being crippled.
He explained that the mandate of committee focused on the review of the legal framework in order to maintain or review the existing law.
According to him, the key recommendations of the report include increasing the number of personnel and providing adequate funding to reinforce the work of the board.
Alhaji Bala Ibrahim noted that, the current Hisba workforce of 1,700 across the state was inadequate to cater for the operations of the board.
The Secretary noted that the report recommended increasing the number of personnel to 4,600.
In his remark, Governor Umar Namadi said this was one of the most important committees set up by the government in the state.
He added that the report, once implemented, would make the state’s Hisba the best in the entire country.
The Governor commended the committee members for their commitment and dedication, pledging that his administration will implement the recommendations in their entirety.
Namadi said the objective was to have a Hisba Board that is credible and operational.
