President Bola Tinubu has ordered all government ministries, departments, and agencies to purchase compressed natural gas-powered (CNG) vehicles.

This is contained in a statement by the Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale.

This move is part of the country’s efforts to transition to clean energy, as CNG-enabled vehicles are considered to produce lower emissions and offer a more affordable alternative for Nigerian energy consumers.

In line with his commitment to ensure energy security, drive utility, and cut high fuel costs, President Bola Tinubu has directed the mandatory procurement of compressed-natural-gas-powered vehicles by all government ministries, departments, and agencies,” Ngelale said.

He emphasized the importance of driving the implementation of CNG adoption across the country and urged public officials to set an example for Nigerians.

President Tinubu has also directed the rejection of memos from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) seeking the purchase of traditional petrol-dependent vehicles and instructed affected council members to seek value- driven procurements of CNG- compliant vehicles
