House of Representatives is to Investigate alledged Employment Racketeering and Gross Mismanagement of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) by the Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),
Parastatals and Tertiary Institutions.

The decision followed a motion by a member from Osun State Mr Wale Oke, adopted by the lawmakers during a plenary session.

Mr Wale Oke, explained that Federal Public Service has historically been a channel through which the Federal Government makes social interventions, stabilizes society, reduces poverty and increases its access to all parts of Nigeria but corruption is gradually destroying the track record.

He emphasized that most of the MDA’s underscores the essence and the importance of managing the process of recruitment and payment of civil servants by selling the employment positions, notwithstanding the unqualified that cannot perform optimally.

The lawmaker noted that Public Institutions have since stopped the process of advertising jobs and vacancies the few instances where adverts are published, the slots are already commoditized and made available for the highest bidders.

Mr Oke, stressed that Government tried to address abuses within the system particularly, the menace of Ghost workers by introducing the (IPPIS) to help fish out the large number of ghost workers consuming billions of Naira monthly in salary payments across cadres.

He told the house that if urgent steps are not taken to investigate the matter Federal Government will continue to lose billions of naira while unqualified workers would be trooping into various sectors within the Federal Civil Service.

Mover of the motion however, appealed to the house to set up an Ad-hoc Committee to interface with executives of various MDAS, Parastatals, and Tertiary Institutions on the issues and report back in four weeksfor further legislative action.
