UNICEF Advocates Children Health, Education For Development

United Nations Children Fund UNICEF says for Nigeria and Africa as a whole to attain the desired development, attention must be paid to education, health and nutrition of children.

UNICEF Country representative in Nigeria, Ms Christian Munduate stated this while addressing newsmen as part of this year celebration of the Day of African Child held at LEA Sheik Abubakar Gumi Primary School Kaduna.

Ms Munduate said childrens in Africa needed opportunity to acquire sound education, good health and nutrition in their early years.

She noted that, after the children acquire the education, they can take role in their adolescent life by having opportunity to learn skills that could help them to go through adulthood.

According to her, the best way to celebrate the day of African Child is with education.

Ones the child reaches five years survival, health and nutrition are in place, the best investment that we can do is education”she said.

Ms Christian Munduate congratulated the children of Kaduna State and indeed every Nigerian child on the occasion of this year’s Day of the Africa Child, DAY.

Ms Monduate who moved round the LEA primary school and seen children accessing learning through the Nigeria Learning Passport digital platform, described it as apt in the learning process for the children.

She noted that UNICEF, with the support of other partners launched the Nigeria Learning Passport to expand access to quality learning for children in Nigeria.

Ms Monduate pointed out that, Since its launched, the Nigeria Learning Passport has provided access to quality teaching and learning to 280,000 learners, teachers, parents and young people across Nigeria.

In a remark, the Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Education,Dr. Haliru Soba said government is committed to providing a basic skills to all children in numeracy, literacy and Digital Skills.

Dr.Soba maintained that UNICEF is actively supporting Kaduna State government and others partners toward enhancing learning process.

He added that the Nigeria learning passport would not only help the children to learn numeracy and literacy skills but they would also acquire digital skills.
