The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM is set to host Global African Diaspora Symposium which provides avenue for networking among Africans and Diaspora globally, and promote the implementation and institutionalisation of Pan-Africanism at the United Nations.

The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa stated this in Abuja at a hybrid joint world press conference ahead of the Global African Diaspora Symposium.

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa explained that the African Diaspora had proven vibrancy and competence in all fields, internationally, hence the need to continue the positive actions to dismiss the negative perception through initiatives like the symposium.

The Director-General, Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa, DCTA, Ambassador Rabiu Dagari, said the symposium was similar to the Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) that was held in Nigeria in 1977.

Ambassador Dagari, however, said there was more structure in place, like NiDCOM and the DTCA, to promote the Diaspora community in a positive perception.

The Global African Diaspora symposium schedule to hold next month with the theme, “Building Stronger Connections between Africa and the Global Diaspora”, was aimed at addressing Africa’s most pressing challenges in all sectors.

Nigerians from across the world attended the virtual press conference.
