HYPPADEC Awards over N1.2b Water Project in Niger

 

The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission HYPPADEC has awarded over one point two billion naira contract for the reticulation and total overhauling of the New Bussa water works in Borgu Local Government Council of Niger state to ease their water needs.

Managing Director HYPPADEC Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa who announced this at  New Bussa headquarters of Borgu Local Government Council maintained that when completed the project will bring an end to over twenty years of water scarcity in the area and it’s environs.

Represented by the Director Community and Rural Development Directorate Dr Mahmud Mohammed the Managing Director threatened to revoke the contract if the contractor fail to abide by terms and conditions stipulated for such contract stressing that duration of the project is six months.

Alh Abubakar Yelwa however described the project as crucial in view of its importance to the well being of members of New Bussa community and charged them to support as well as to take ownership of the project for maximum results. 

Also speaking Director Operations Engineer Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara explained that the project consist of technical and booster station one million litres pump house and tank rehabilitation, utility vehicles, laboratory equipments, reticulation system and seven kilometer expansion of distribution, rehabilitation of entire building and three kilometer expansion of old township expansion and maintenance among others.

Managing Director Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation represented by Mr Gimba Isah said the project would no doubt assist in providing healthy and portable water supply to the communities and called for their support and understanding to succeed.

Chairman Borgu Local Government Council Alh  Suleiman Yerima appreciated the gesture by HYPPADEC saying that it would go a long way in reducing their hardship.

The Emir of Borgu Alhaji Mohammed Sani Dantoro represented by the Wazirin Borgu Alhaji Bala Sa’adu wondered why despite their contribution to the country’s economy they have been neglected in the past and thanked the commission for the  intervention.
