Redesigned Notes Will Fight Corruption In Nigeria – CBN

Central Bank of Nigeria CBN says the redesigned of new naira notes will fight corruption in Nigeria.

The CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele disclosed during a one day sensitization meeting with stakeholders on the new naira notes redesign and the use of e-naira organized by the Apex Bank in Jigawa state.

Godwin Emefiele who was represented by Mrs Rifkatu Musa Yusuf explained that, the new naira notes of 200, 500, and 1000 where re-designed to fight corruption in Nigeria.

He advised the general public to ensure they deposit old denominations at their respective commercial banks.

Emefiele said there was no limit to how much a customer can deposit in their accounts.

Speaking at the meeting, the CBN Controller Dutse branch, Sa’adatu Aminu Ibrahim explained that the redesigned  notes was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to boost socio-economic wellbeing of the people.

According to her, the policy would help to control inflation, increasing financial inclusion, ensuring greater formalization of the migerian economy and fight against corruption.

Sa’adatu Aminu Ibrahim pointed out that, the old naira notes will cease to be a legal tender by 31st January 2023.

Also speaking, the Chairperson market association Alhaji Yakubu Kwaimawa, assured to continue sensitizing the general public on the new currency.

The Jigawa State Director, National Orientation Agency NOA, Alhaji Shuaibu Haruna said the ageny was fully committed to enlighten the public on federal government policies and programs.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the stakeholders meeting was attended by traditional leaders, associations as well as traders and commercial motorcyclists among others.
