Deputy governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe has urged men and husbands to stop the practice of abusing women either physically or mentally.

She stated this when she received Kaduna Civil Society Coalition against Gender Based Violence at Government House Kaduna.

Dr Balarabe said such practice is a gross violation of their fundamental right.

She described Kaduna as the only state in Nigeria that has included mental health as an intervention for human capital development.

According to her, more measures needed to be taken toward ensuring women give birth at hospitals.

Dr. Balarabe who spoke further on the level of ante natal attendance in various hospitals, said the attendance was high while delivery was very low.

In a remark, the leader of the Delegation and also Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba noted that the visit was part of the commemoration of 16 Days Activism Against Gender-Based Violence for 2022.

Hajiya Hafsat explained that, twenty eight Civil Society Organizations in Kaduna staged a match to draw the attention of the general public on the need to end all forms of violence against women and girls in Kaduna State.

The Commissioner also disclosed that, the visit was also to inform the Deputy governor on the support the CSO’s are getting from Development partners as well as the effort of the state government in protecting women and children.

Permanent Commissioner, Kaduna Peace Commission, Mrs Rebecca Sako John emphasized the need for Kaduna State government to pass the Gender Equal Opportunity Bill to law.

Also speaking, the representative of the United Nation Population Fund Activity, Mr Audu Alayande stressed that, the main vision of UNFPA was to eliminate maternal death, gender base violence and other harmful practices.

Mr. Alayande commended Kaduna State government for the good job it has been doing over the last seven years aimed at improving the lives of residents.

He stressed the need more for sensitization on maternal health.
