NSA Seeks Legislative Arm Support Against Insecurity In Nigeria

National Security Advisor to President Muhammadu Buhari, Major General Babagana Mungonu, retired, has advocated more support from the legislative arm in the ongoing fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

He made the appeal during the 2023 budget session of the House of representatives Committee on Intelligence at the National Assembly Abuja.

Major General Monguna retired, who noted that insecurity was not only peculiar to Nigeria but a global phenomenon, said if all hands were on deck nation can overcome the trend through collaborative efforts.

The National Security Adviser also reminded the lawmakers to set aside any other competing considerations and focus on intelligence as the Nigerians were facing the 2023 general elections for better result.

He maintained that Nigeria was dealing with a broad spectrum of intelligence which if not supported in the right way can not be overcome.

In a remark, the Chairman House Committee on Intelligence, Sha’aban Sharada, said the committee was already making efforts to remove agencies under the Intelligence unit from the envelope budgeting system.

Sha’aban Sharada, explained that the budget of the intelligence community has been slightly reduced due to the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic
