Foundation Coordinates Damau Household Milk Farm Cooperative In Kaduna

A non Governmental Organisation Milk Value Chain Foundation has coordinated the setting up of Damau Household Milk Farm Cooperative at Kubau local government area of Kaduna State to ensure steady supply of dairy milk in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ishaq Bello stated this during a dissemination workshop on setting up of Damau Household Milk Farm Cooperative held in Kaduna.

The Damau Household Milk Farm is an initiative of Kaduna State Government and financed by Danish Embassy in Nigeria that settled one thousand household at Kubau local government area to ensure adequate supply of milk in the country.

Under the program, four hundred farmers were moblised and trained to form ten different cooperatives with the aim at managing goods and services, financial instruments for their members and also to ensure steady supply of milk in Nigeria.

Apart from providing jobs opportunities to farmers, and cattle rearers, the milk value chain foundation is expected to supply ten percent of milk needed in the country.

Dr. Ishaq Bello saluted the determination of Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-rufai for funding the transparent and competitive selection of beneficiaries and also appreciated the Danish Embassy in Nigeria for providing grants for the project.

The Executive Board Chairman of Damau Cooperative Dr. Idi Abdul explained that the beneficiaries of the project were selected across socio cultural background and form in to model cooperatives that will ensure sustainability in production and supply of high quality of raw milk for business purpose.

He emphasized that the members of the cooperatives have been trained on capacity building which will enable them to handle the managerial duties of the cooperative.

In a remark, the Royal Danish Consulate General Jacob Paul said the partnership is to support rural communities in modern production of milk supply in Nigeria.

He said it has come to their notice that there are a lot of farmers in the rural areas that need to be supported in the modern ways of milk production.
