Kebbi State Contributory Health Management Agency in collaboration with the Integrated Health Programme, (USAID) is providing a two day training on health care financing to working journalists in the state.

The training is to enlighten the media on health financing and activities of the health contributory management agency.

Speaking while declaring open the training, Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Jafar Muhammad Augie, stressed the importance and critical role of the media towards information dissimination to the society.

According to him, lack of understanding of the health insurance scheme by the people and information dissimination are the major challenge facing the scheme in the state.

He added that workers at the facilities needed to be educated on the scheme.

Dr. Muhammad Augie, said issue of release of funds for the health sector after budgeting is a major challenge hindering health care service delivery to the peope.

“Information is one of the seven components of the health system. Health needs multi sectorial collaboration towards its improvement”.

The Executive Secretary told the trainees that, the New National Health Act has made it mandatory for individuals to enroll into social health insurance scheme , saying every state must establish its own social health insurance scheme.

Knowledge Management and Communication Specialist for Integrated Health Programme, (IHP) Faruk Nanoh Bello, highlighted some benefits of in a IHP.

” it includes contribution to state level reduction in child and maternal morbidity and mortality, increase capacity of public and private health system and to sustainably support quality PHC services for reproductive health, family planning, maternal, newborn and child health as well as plus nutrition and malaria”.

Others according to him, are strengthening of health system , supporting PHC services, improve access to primary health care service and increase quality of primary health care service.
