Insecurity Hindering Administration Of Nomadic Education – Expert


The chairman, Farmers Herders Initiative for Peace and Development in Africa, Salim Musa Umar says current insecurity in Nigeria has greatly affects the smooth implementation programs of Nomadic Education in the country.

Speaking at a training workshop for data collectors on impact of conflict and insecurity in the implementation of Nomadic Education in Nomadic communities from North Central zone, Salim Musa Umar, described the menace as a negative development in educating the Nomads.

In a paper titled, Rural Banditry and it’s implication for effective service delivery in Nomadic Education, Salim Musa Umar suggested for a life insurance for Nomadic schools teachers, as well as improve security measures for Nomadic schools and communities.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education, Professor Bashir Usman said the workshop was aimed at developing the capacity of data collectors on the impact assessment of conflict and insecurity in Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau States.

Represented by the Director of quality assurance in commission, Mr. Akin Akinyosoye, the Executive Secretary said insecurity such as violence, community clashes, cattle rustling, kidnappings and armed banditry have negatively affected the smooth implementation of Nomadic Education programs.

Professor Bashir Usman further said the resultant effect of the insecurity on the program include loss of lives and destructions school facilities, which has worsened pupils enrollment, and complete abandonment of school by the Nomads due to insecurity.

He therefore stressed the need for more improve security in Nomadic communities to curtail such challenges.

Earlier, the Director of consultancy in the commission, Mallam Abubakar Ahmad Yaro, expressed optimism that the workshop will avail participants the opportunity to acquire necessary skills and knowledge for the successful conduct of the assessment, and also assist the commission in discharging it’s functions more effectively.

Participants at the workshop were drawn from three states in the North Central Geo political zone of the country which include, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau.
