NASS Assures Resident Doctors Full Support to Solve Brain Drain

The National Assembly has assured the resident Doctors its full support withing their constitutional powers to solve the problem of brain drain and other fundemental ingredients for good working condition of Doctors in Nigeria.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila gave the assurance while speaking with the new executives of the National Association of Resident Doctors who paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

The speaker who received the quest confirmed the comittments of the legislatures in giving their maximum support within the ambit of law to ensure such ugly situation of migrating Doctors has been curtailed,

Hon Gbajabiamila also explained that it is a sad story for a country that has morthern two hundred million people to experience such brain darain from Resident Doctors who by the country’s population are in adequate.

He further encouraged that they will look at the budgetory provisions of the health sector in the ongoing budget defence and all the necessary legislations that enhance the welfare packages of the Doctors in accordance with the provision s of the law

He said although the country is struggling with it’s revenue generation profile , yet the National Assembly will not relent in ensuring people are paid properly their entitlements

Earlier the president of the National Association of Resident Doctors in Nigeria Dr Emeka Orji explained that from their investigations not less than two thousand Doctors so far have been migrated out side other countries

He added that in less than eight months about eight hundred migrated too, associating the ugly situation with renumuration of Doctors, working condition and inproper training to sharpen the Doctors experiences in mordern medicine procedures

The Association is appealing for more support from the law makers to stop the ugly situation before it cause industrial dishermony

Dr Orji further said they will soon bring a proposal to amend the ..management act whome he said they found some gray areas that need to be amended which was instantly welcomed by the speaker. Bashir M
