Federal Roads Maintenance Agency FERMA, has called on the relevant security agencies to arrest trucks with exceeded capacity load of goods so that the country’s roads can be safeguarded from damage.

The Head of the agency in Kebbi state, Engineer Rilwan Usman Zaga, made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.

Engineer Usman Zaga said, there was need for synergy between FERMA and security agencies to be better educated on the maximum allowable load a vehicle plying any road to carry so that roads can last long and be motorable in the country.

According to him, such vehicles carrying loads above their capacity, after endangering lives of passengers and damaging the roads, also cause economic sabotage .

He explained that, the agency’s challenge is the security situation in the southern part of Kebbi state but are working on roads where their is less security challenge.

Engineer Zaga, commeded security agencies for providing the agency with security to give protection to workers across Kebbi state saying, security takes priority before embarking on any work.

“Rijau, Riba road in Kebbi South, for now we are not working there, we are waiting for the improvement interms of security or safety of those places before we go back and give them attention. Now our priority must to be on areas that are secured and areas that are less dangerous so that we send our materials”.

He assured that, the agency would not relent on construction and maintenance of roads to safeguard people lives.
