The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has warned of possible flooding, this month in Kebbi, Jigawa , Borno, Bauchi,Taraba, Plateau and Bayelsa states.

Other states envisaged to experience flash flood include Kano, Adamawa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti states as a result of the high amount of rainfall in July and August this year.

In a statement, NiMet says because of high amounts of rainfall recorded in August, soil moisture in most states had become saturated predisposing states, this month, to varying degrees of flooding which may range from high, medium, low and flash flood.

It further states that places with major river channels may also experience flood due to accumulation of excess water.

NiMet advises that State Emergency Management Agencies should intensify adaptative, mitigative and response mechanisms while States that are expected to experience degrees of various flooding are advised to begin their awareness campaigns to minimize possible losses.
