Woman Gives Birth During Medical Outreach In Kano

A 30-year-old pregnant woman, Hadiza Ayuba has put to bed during a medical outreach organized by Aminu Kano teaching hospital in collaboration with member representing Dawakin Kudu/ Warawa federal constituency, Alhaji Mustapha Bala Dawakin.

The mother of eight went into labour shortly after health officials from Aminu kano teaching hospital commenced sensitization on importance of antenatal care, immunization and how to detect problems associated with pregnancy.

Speaking to newsmen, shortly after delivering a baby girl with the help of matron and staff of Aminu Kano maternity unit, Hadiza commended the organizers of the sensitization, saying that she would forever remain grateful to those who assisted her and the safe delivery kit given to her.

Earlier in her remarks, matron Nafisa Zubairu charged pregnant women to visit hospitals for antenatal care.

She described bleeding, stooling, vomiting, headache, fever and stomach ache as some of the catalysts to maternal mortality.

On the importance of nutrients and immunization to both mother and child, Nafisa Adamu from department of community medicine explained that pregnant women and nursing mothers need adequate care for the baby to stay healthy.

She identified nutritious food, fruits, vegetables, routine immunization as some of the major ways to protect under five children aginst killer diseases.

“Every child should be immunized against TB, Hepatitis, pneumonia, measles, meningitis.”

Samira Aliyu, Shema’u Muhammad Tajudeen, Ummi Nasir Ma’aruf from Aminu Kano teaching hospital enlightened pregnant women on how to mitigate maternal and infant mortality.

“Surgical gloves, diapers, cord clamp, olive oil and sanitary materials are all needed for safe delivery”.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the fourth phase of over safe delivery programme witnessed turn out of over 1,000 pregnant and nursing mothers from Dawakin Kudu/Warawa who were sensitized and given safe delivery packs.

The event was attended by member representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa federal constituency, Alhaji Mustapha Bala Dawaki, CMD Aminu Kano teaching hospital, Professor Abdul Rahman Abba Sheshe, top government functionaries, health officials among others.
