Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

20 people have died and 35 others injured in flash floods in central Afghanistan within the last 48 hours.

Spokesman, Afghanistan’s disaster management authority, Mohammad Nassim Haqqani who confirmed the incident on Monday, noted that heavy rain destroyed thousands of homes and damaged agricultural land.

Afghanistan has been rocked by natural disasters this year, including a drought and a massive earthquake that killed over 1,000 people in June which the Taliban government has struggled to manage.

“We ask the international community, especially Islamic countries and humanitarian organisations, to urgently help the victims,” Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a video message posted on social media.
