IGP Deploys Police To Schools, Hospitals

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the deployment of security around schools, hospitals and other critical national infrastructures across the country.

The IGP also ordered regular patrols, stop and search raids, and show of force by tactical commanders to clamp down on crime and criminality in some states of the federation.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi says the directives follow reports received from various commands and formations on insecurity  across the country.

The statement tasks strategic police at various levels to give priority to the use of intelligence gathering networks and take the fight against crime to the doorsteps of suspected criminal elements with a view to flushing them from their hideouts.

However, on July, 2022, the Federal Capital Territory directed the immediate closure of all unity schools in the Territory, due to insecurity, subsequently private schools were also closed citing similar reason.

Although some schools especially in the North West and North East are to round off the session this week.

It is not immediately clear if this directive will be directed to such schools.

Students in Public Universities have been at home for six months due to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU strike that started since February 14, 2022.
