Kano state fire service has confirmed the death of two well diggers at Sabon Garin Bauchi of Wudil Local Government Area.

Reports indicated that the untimely death occured after 35 year old Sunusi Bala and his 60 year old father Malam Bala who were hired to extract sand from an old well.

Narrating the incident, Public Relations Officer of the Kano state fire service Saminu Abdullahi said the Agency received a distress call from Malam Isma’ila Ahmed at about 11:30 am.

He pointed out that the two people died after successfully excavating the sand, Sunusi Bala got trapped while his father Malam Bala tried to assist him and both suffocated due to lack of oxygen.

Saminu Yusif noted that all efforts by friends and relatives to get them out proved abortive which prompted Malam Isma’ila Idris to contact wudil fire service station

He maintained that the rescue team succeeded in retrieving them unconscious and later confirmed dead by health officials.

The public relations officer said the deceased have been handed over to Inspector Felix Gowok of Wudil Model police station.
