Scores Injured, Over 70 Houses Destroyed By Windstorm In Dambatta LG

Windstorm has led to the death of an elderly woman, many injured and over seventy houses destroyed in Unguwar Bai and Dukawa, Dambatta local government area Kano.

The Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Aliyu Jili who led a delegation to the area described the incident as unfortunate.

According to him, they were at Dambatta on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to condole the families affected by the disaster and distribute relief items.

Dr. Saleh Jili explained the state government was committed to the protection of life and properties of it’s citizens through policies and programs aimed at uplifting the standards of living.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of Malama Zainab Dahiru who lost her life during the disaster and wish the injured speedy recovery.

The Executive Secretary said the delegation would hand over the relief items to the Vice Chairman Dambatta local government area who doubles as chairman emergency relief committee for distribution to those affected.

“Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is deeply concerned about the disaster and would do everything possible to protect lives and properties”

In his remark, the chairman of Dambatta local government area,
Alhaji Mohammad Abdullahi Kore, pointed out that over seventy houses were destroyed, one dead and scores injured including a pregnant woman and under age children.

He maintained that Dambatta local government council would take proactive measures to prevent future occurance in addition to footing the medical bills of those indisposed

“The Windstorm is the first of it’s kind in Dambatta and has lead to the death of an elderly woman Zainab while Ado and his family were rescued from the remains of the collapsed building”.

In their remarks, Malam Dahiru Haruna, Muhammad Ado and Nana Ado said the windstorm led to the collapse of their houses and rendered them homeless.

While commending Kano state government for the kind gesture they appealed to philanthropists and wealthy individuals to contribute their quota to mitigate future occurrence.

Radio Nigeria reports that, items distributed include bags of cement, zinc, pillows, mattresses, mats, food and clothing materials among others.
