Kwara state government says it will ensure total evacuation of illegal dump sites to prevent the spread of epidemic in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Remilekun Banigbe stated this when she paid an unscheduled visit to Itakudima, Zuban Area, in Ilorin West Local Government area of the state to assess the volume of wastes at the illegal dumpsite in the area.
According to her, the visit was part of the state government’s efforts to curtail illegal dump sites, especially in Ilorin metropolis.
She explained that the waste has constituted a big threat, as well as posing serious danger to the people living in the affected areas.
Banigbe noted that the visit would attract the prompt attention of the state government’s intervention team to evacuate the refuse on time.
In his remark, a resident of the community, Alfa Issa Kawu said the state government’s intervention, would enable them actualise plans to make the place a market square.
