The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad has described Justice Mary Odili as a potent ray of hope and beacon of strength to the womenfolk across Africa and beyond.

Justice Muhammad said this in Abuja during a valedictory session in honor of Justice Odili as she bows out of office as the Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria after attaining the mandatory retirement age of seventy years.

Justice Muhammad described Justice Odili’s attention to details as “impeccable” and “captivating”, saying her “robust contributions” to the development of the Judiciary was “worthy of emulation”.

Delivering her farewell speech, Justice Odili advocated the immediate restructuring of the country to “steer the ship on the right course”.

The jurist whose meritorious landmark judgment had shaped the society was born on May 12, 1952, at AmudiObizi, Ezinihitte – Mbaise LGA of Imo State.

She rose through the ranks to become a Justice of the Supreme Court on June 23, 2011.

In recognition of her sterling feats on the Bench, the Federal Government conferred on her the National Honour, Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
