Commissioner for Health, Comrade Juliana Bitrus and representatives of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Lawi Mshelia at a media briefing in Maiduguri

Over eight million children have received the seasonal malaria treatment between 2017 and 2021 in Borno state. 

State Commissioner for Health Comrade Juliana Bitrus made this known at a media briefing to commemorate the 2022 World Malaria Day in Maiduguri. 

The Commissioner said two million children who are between three months and five years of age were reached every year.

According to her, Borno state government has concluded plans to access a five-year World Bank Immunisation plus and Malaria Coverage and Transforming Services IMPACT project to reduce incidence of malaria among pregnant women and children. 

“It is heartwarming to note that Borno is one of the only 4 out of 18 states that have achieved 100% state of preparedness for the commencement of the project” Mrs Juliana said.

Comrade Juliana Bitrus expressed commitment of the state government with the support of partners to reduce malaria burden and accelerate effort to achieve malaria free-state.

Representative of World Health Organization Dr. Richard Loko and that of UNICEF Dr Jimoh Mushideen commended Borno state government for the procurement of large quantum of anti malaria drugs, expressing commitment to support the state government to end the disease.
