Collaborative efforts between the security, traditional leaders, and the community have been described as a major tool for addressing the rising conflicts in society.
A retired Assistant General of police Austin Iwar stated this during a stakeholders workshop for the security, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations organized by Equal Access international in collaboration with Cleen Foundation held in Kano.
The retired police officer explained that the essence of the meeting was to bring the security, political leaders, civic society organizations, and traditional leaders to acquaint them with the issues that degrade their communities and fine-tuned modalities of moving forward.
He said security alone cannot solve the rising conflicts in the communities hence they need to work together with other stakeholders within the context of crime prevention, geared toward achieving the set objectives.
In a remark the Deputy Country director Equal Access International Mr. Gad Peter said the project was part of the ongoing effort in supporting peace development and justice in four States of Northern Nigeria; Benue , Palteau , Kaduna and Kano.
“We are working with critical local governments in kano , gezawa , ungogo,, and Nassarwa to acquaint them with the needed skills of collaborating with the conventional security outfits to enhance security in their local government areas”.
Hadiza Bala and Alhassan Danladi Getawa whowere among the participants of the meeting, said the workshop will play a vital role in boosting their capacity for enhancing security and conflict resolution in their localities.
The meeting was attended by stakeholders from the security, civic society organizations, and traditional rulers.
