Impeachment: Zamfara Chief Judge Sets Panel To Probe Deputy Governor

A seven man panel to investigate the allegations levels against the deputy governor of Zamfara state Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau has been inaugurated.

Inaugurating the panel at the state high court, the chief judge of the state, justice kulu Aliyu said it is one of the constitutional responsible ties bestowed on them based on section 188(5) of the 1999 constitution as amended.

She said based on the above constitutional provisions, she received a letter from the Zamfara Assembly Speaker, Nasiru Magarya calling on her to constitute a panel to investigate the allegations against the deputy governor based on the resolution passed by the house.

According to her, a seven man panel were selected and inaugurated after careful consideration of their track records as persons of proven integrity appointed to discharge their duties without fear or favour.

The chief judge also urged the members of the panel to give the person to be investigated the opportunity to defend himself either in person or by a legal practitioner of his choice.

The Committee is under the Chairmanship of Halidu Tanko Soba a retired Justice from Kaduna State, while Barrister Ashiru Tsafe will serve as the secretary of the committee and as members.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the committee, Halidu Tanko Soba assured to work as a team and within the powder of the panel as specified in section 188(7) of the constitution as well as to concentrate on the issues in the notice of allegations attached.
