The State Coordinator of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Kano, Mr. Shaba Muhammed says circulation of unregistered products in kano markets has been drastically reduced.
Shaba Mohammed stated this in Kano while addressing Journalists in his office.
He said, through sustained operation and various mechanisms put in place, the Agency succeeded in identifying and arresting individuals who were behind smuggling unregistered products into the markets which were often
dangerous to human health.
The Coordinator explained that in some instances some were counseled while many others were been forced to comply with the Agency’s directives to register.
” Not only have they registered their products, but some have also opened their local facilities/factories to produce or process these products locally”
Mr. Shaba Mohammed maintained that with the recent development, many now run registered vegetable oil factories, rice mills, and confectionaries such as sweets which have made the issue of smuggling these items to near zero.
“If you enter our state markets now, what you will see generally are local products and we can say it’s one of our major achievements since I came to office”
“Rather than losing millions to seizures, now their products are registered and certified and the consumers are now sure of what they are buying with guarantee,”
The NAFDAC Coordinator disclosed that more personnel would be drafted particularly to the Sabon Gari area of Kano State where information gathered reveals that activities of persons who reproduce beverages and other drinks and sell to unsuspecting customers were taking place.
” We gather information through intelligence and we would make arrangements to deploy more men especially to Sabon Gari to locate and apprehend those who reproduce other people’s products.
He warned that anyone caught in the act of producing, distributing, or selling unregistered products would be prosecuted according to the law and charged the public to always assist the commission by reporting such cases for appropriate measures.
