In a bid to ensure Schools resume operations in Zamfara State, Global Partnership for Education, GPE, UNICEF Nigeria in Collaboration with the state Ministry of Education has flagged off “Back-to-School” Campaign in Gusau.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir who flagged off the campaign on behalf of Governor Bello Matawalle said, the campaign would ensure safe schools reopening in Kaura Namoda and Maradun Local government areas as Supported by GPE and UNICEF Nigeria.

He noted that, the Schools closure due to COVID-19 and insecurity was a major setback in the academic activities in the State.

On his part, Permanent Secretary ministry of Health, Dr. Habib Yelwa charged schools Teachers and other staff to ensure they were fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 and ensure strict adherence to all the COVID-19 protocols.

In his remarks, UNICEF Consultant in the State, Ahmad Hashim said UNICEF had been supporting the state more especially in girl child education, noting that, the back to school campaign is timely hence the need to put all hands on desk for success.

He added that, the number of out of school children in the State has reduced from 500,000 to 300,000 due to government’s efforts and supports from the UNICEF.
