The Katsina State government has debunked a circular purportedly issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, announcing plans to shut down telecom services in the state to curb armed banditry and kidnapping.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s spokesman, Malam Abdu Labaran described the circular as fake, noting that it was forged and circulated on the social media by rumour mongers.

He said before such important decision is taken all stakeholders would be consulted while citizens would be informed well in advance.

Abdu Labaran said the state government was doing its best in supporting security agencies to check the spate of attacks by armed bandits and kidnappers in the affected Local Government Areas.
