The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), says 104 victims of human trafficking on their way to Europe enroute Libya, have been intercepted and rescued by operatives.

Director General of the Agency, Basheer Muhammed said 8 suspected human traffickers were also arrested in the process just as efforts were on to apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicates now at large.

Basheer Muhammed had given its Regional Directors, Zonal and State Commanders a matching order on effective surveillance within their areas of operation to forestall recruitment and trafficking of any Nigerian.

In a statement, Senator Mohammed explained that 99 victims were rescued in Kano.

According to the NAPTIP boss, the victims were on transit from Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Anambra, Edo, Osun, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Ogun and Lagos states en route to Europe via Libya

He appealed to parents to desist from giving out their children for any unclear or unverified adventure and should contact NAPTIP when confronted with any offer of help that entails taking their children abroad.
