President Muhammadu Buhari says more equipment will be procured for the armed forces to effectively tackle myriad of insecurity bedevelling the country.

He made the statement while addressing troops of Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai at 212 parade ground Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.

President Muhammadu Buhari who was in Maiduguri on a one day working visit to personnel of the Armed Forces and security agencies of Operation Hadin Kai, said the nation owes a debt of gratitude to the troops prosecuting the war against insurgency.

He charged the military and other security agencies not to give breathing space to terrorists and criminals across the country.

According to him, his administration has made a huge investment in the procurement of high calibre weapons and ammunition to prosecute the war on terrorism and other criminal activities.

The President noted that large consignments of critical combat enablers have already been injected into theatres of operation across the country.

“As your Commander-in-Chief, I want to assure you that my government will continue to work towards the provision of timely funding and procurement of equipment for the armed forces and other security agencies. This is intended to boost the prosecution of the ongoing war to a logical conclusion and also to and also to serve our collective interest and well-being”.

President Buhari acknowledged the increased synergy within the military and inter-agency collaboration in the fight against terrorism and other criminal elements in the northeast which gave birth to the successes of the ongoing operation Tura ta Kai Bango.

He also said the armed forces have been provided with a firm strategy and a clear sense of direction to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

On the resettlement of IDPs, President Buhari said a strategy is being developed for the post war reconstruction and peace building to fast track the recovery process in the northeast.

Mohammadu Buhari also interacted with some of the wounded soldiers assuring them that the government was fully committed to their welfare.

He, therefore, saluted the fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice, assuring that his administration would spare no effort to ensure that widows and children of fallen heroes in defence of the country are well cared for.

Earlier, the Deputy Theatre Commander Joint Taskforce Operation Hadin Kai Major General Felix Omoigui said the president’s visit would boost the morale of troops in the frontline.
