House of Representatives has given the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) and the Governor Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) 72 hours to appear before it or face sanction.
The decision was sequel to a motion adopted by the house ad hoc Committee investigating the assessment and status of all recovered loots, movable and immovable assets from 2002 to 2020 at the resumed hearing on Monday this week.
Earlier, chairman of the ad hoc Committee, Mr. Adejoro Adeogun had expressed disappointment over the non appearance of heads of various invited agencies of government without any official communication to the Committee.
The Commitee Chairman became upset after realizing that heads of the agencies invited were not at the hearing but sent their representatives without formal letter of introduction assigning them to represent thier principal officers.
Moving a motion in that regard, a member of the Committee Mr. Isiaka Ibrahim decried the lack of respect accorded the parliament by various agencies of government despite being a creation of the National Assembly.
Mr. Isiaka Ibrahim, maintained that, apart from being established by law passed by the National Assembly, heads of the agencies when invited to appear before house they took things for granted stressing it is matter that calls for serious concern.
He said according to the provisions of section 88 and 89, if the government agencies are not going to respect lawmakers then they have no option than to shut down the National Assembly until everything is resolved.
The motion was adopted by the Committee and the chairman in his final remarks stated that it will give the agencies from Monday to Thursday to appear before the Commitee or face sanction.
