Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has signed into law violence against person prohibition bill, which prescribes death sentence for rapists.

Alhaji Badaru Abubakar signed death sentence for male and female rapists or life sentence without the option of fine.

Other law signed by the governor include anyone who aided or gives order to rape another person shall receive a death sentence or life sentence.

The use of political thugs attract four years imprisonment for perpetrators.

The Governor said use of indecent or pornographic pictures for advert in public places shall attract three months imprisonment with the option of N10,000.

 Kidnapping shall also carry death sentence or life imprisonment without option of fine.

Also speaking, Attorney General and state commissioner of justice, Musa Aliyu Adamu said the law had been drafted in line with section 36 of 1999 constitution amended.

He pointed out that violence against persons prohibition law stipulates death penalty for a rapist and compensation of not less than N500,000 to the victim.

According to the Attorney General, the law had been domesticated and it was in line with sharia law and does not conflict with the cultural belief of the people of jigawa state.
